The idea for this call came about in discussions Neil had beginning in 1980 with the president of the Eastern Piedmont chapter of the North Carolina NWTF to utilize some particularly nice poplar blocks that had been set aside for a special set of calls. Although Neil's box call was featured as the centerpiece of the set, this was the only time Neil agreed to contribute to a collection that included other call makers’ calls.  The prototype, referred to in a letter from Neil as a "Limited edition Presentation" design, was delivered in August 1981.  Circa 1982.
